Participation in Troika
On 1 January 2009, the Republic of Kazakhstan formally joined the Troika of Chairmen of the OSCE. Under the Rules of Procedure of the OSCE, the Troika is composed of the Chairman-in-Office and the previous and succeeding Chairmen of the Organization. Greece, Finland and Kazakhstan are members of this year’s Troika.
The Troika is an important instrument for co-ordination of activities and medium-term planning. It is the institution that ensures continuity in the Organization’s work and advises the Chairman-in-Office.
Moreover, Kazakhstan has taken over the Chairmanship of the OSCE Contact Group with the Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation, which includes, apart from the 56 participating States of the Organization, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. Co-operation with the Mediterranean Partners is one of the important aspects of the OSCE’s activities; it seeks to define spheres of mutual interests and the possibilities for further co-ordinated action to ensure security and to counteract challenges and threats.
